Planning Guide to Hosting MYSS Sanctioned Shows
Initial Planning
Determine date and location for your show. Please contact a MYSS representative or
email minnesotayouthswineseries@gmail.com to schedule your show
Each show must pay a $100 sanctioning fee to the Minnesota Youth Swine Series to be a
sanctioned show of the MYSS series. If you are hosting a double header, the second show
can be sanctioned for a dis-counted fee of $50. 100% of the sanctioning fees go toward
awards at the conclusion of the season

Book fairgrounds/facilities.
Reminder to contract for both a show ring and adequate barn space.
Also take into consideration trailer parking as many exhibitors will likely show off trailers.

Does the facility provide a PA system or do I need to make arrangements?
Start contacting your judges right away. Once they are finalized for your show date,
please email minnesotayouthswineseries@gmail.com ASAP or call 507.220.8291 to
update the MYSS board for finalization.
Each show must use the Showman app for the show entry. Use
https://showman.helpscoutdocs.com/ and reach out to Layne Lassnick to help!

Once your show has paid their sanctioning fee and booked a date, your show details will
be listed on the MYSS website and promoted via social media.
Sponsorship
Determine if your show will have sponsors and what recognition they will receive.
Reach out to local sponsors to help fund your show.
Show Preparation
Order shavings for delivery to your location when you are going to be setting up for your
show.
Order awards so that they will arrive to you at least one week prior to your show date.
Banners are required for the Top 5 Overall Barrows and the Top 5 Overall Gilts.
Scales are required at all sanctioned shows. Ensure availability and setup. Make sure you
have a working PA system.
Suggested supplies needed for check-in:
1. Paper
2. Pens
3. Index Cards
4. Envelopes
5. Clipboards
6. Computer
7. Printer (recommended to have two)
8. Printer Ink
9. Cash box with start-up bank for making change for entries and for cash
payouts.
10. Tape and/or staple gun
Recruit volunteers to assist with check-in. Recruit announcer(s)
Recruit ring help
Ring help will be needed to check off pigs coming into class, understand pig
identification, record placings and to run panels to assist kids if needed
Assign volunteers to handle all the money after check-in, be able to break entries into
classes, determine class payouts and sort the payouts into envelopes for each class.
After class payouts are determined, one of these adults should be in charge of
monitoring these envelopes and handing the correct envelopes to the person
assigned to handing out envelopes in class
Have checks/cash ready for payouts to be handed out at the show
Jr. Board members will be available to assist with show entry
BREAKING OF CLASSES
***Please follow the MYSS Guidelines and review the Showman app results within 72 hours
following your show.
All breeds must show as their respective breeds, NO AOB CLASSES will exist.
Whether there is 1 or 21, there is to be a class to represent that breed on both the
gilt and barrow sides at your show.
There is to be no more than 10 head in each class.
Any purebred and crossbred where numbers require more than 1 class, the
respective class winners will come to name a champion of that breed or crossbred.
These pigs named earn points for the MYSS series by being named breed or
crossbred champion and reserve.
Any purebred or crossbred classes that have less than 5 head will show as one
class no matter what age or weight the gilt or barrow may be.
Every breed gilt champion and reserve and crossbred gilt champion and reserve
should be represented in the Champion Gilt Drive.
Every breed barrow champion and reserve and crossbred barrow champion and
reserve should be represented in the Champion Barrow Drive.
Please record 3rd
and 4th
overalls
Plan your payout structure in advance. Remember, this is for the kids to try to pay out
as much as possible. Contact the MYSS for examples of payouts schedules.
Weighbacks -
▪ Exhibitors will declare the weight at which they would like to show their pig and a
mandatory weigh back of the first 2 placing pigs in class will be enforced. The weigh-back
will be 10 pounds.
▪ Shows have the option to opt out of weigh-back for any classes where there is only
one class of that breed.
SHOWMANSHIP
Showmanship age is the exhibitor’s age, as of January 1, of the current year.
Novice | Ages 5-8
Junior | Ages 9-12
Intermediate | Ages 13-16
Senior | Ages 17-21
Your show may choose to have a Peewee Division however exhibitors under the age of
5 are ineligible for points.
A top 5 for each age division in showmanship must be selected.
SHOW **NEW
New for 2026: The Minnesota Pork board has donated RFID wand readers, these will be
used at check in to correctly verify the top 5 overalls and breed champions
POST-SHOW
NEW for 2026: MAKE SURE THE SHOWMAN APP has correct data, you will have 72 hours
to finalize your points. For shows sanctioned with MYSS, this is a requirement.
For any questions, email minnesotayouthswineseries@gmail.com within three days
following your show. Your prompt reporting of show results will help us to keep the point
standings current for MYSS members.
Make sure that the iPads, banners and RFID wand readers are on their way and in the
hands of the next show hosts for the following show!
Set up a final meeting with your crew, if you don't pay out premiums on the showman app,
please mail them out in a timely manner.
